Vol. 114 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Bridge.

Mr. Blaney

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the hardship caused to the people of Ballyheerin district of the Fanad peninsula through the lack of a bridge at Morass Ferry; and, if so, whether he will state (i) the present position in regard to the comparatively longstanding proposals to erect a bridge there; (ii) the cause of the delay in commencing this work; and (iii) when it is proposed to start work on this necessary project.

I am aware that there is a local demand for the construction of a bridge at Morass Ferry. Plans for a bridge submitted by the local authority have been approved. The preliminary estimate of the cost is £40,000. In view of other more urgent demands on the Road Fund, it is not possible at present to allocate grants for projects of this kind.
