Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flour and Bread Subsidy.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the amount of subsidy that would have been required to maintain the price of all flour and bread at the ordinary retail price for the year 1948-49 or for the latest period available.

The amount paid by Department of Industry and Commerce to grain importers in respect of subsidy was £9,859,642 5s. 2d. A balance of £1,082,687 12s. 1d. remains to be paid. Total claim was £10,942,329 17s. 3d.

12,460 sacks of 75 per cent. extraction flour were sold from 15th January to 26th February, 1949.
