Vol. 115 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Construction of County Mayo Road.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the Land Commission undertook some years ago to construct a road into the lands of Cregnanagh, the property of Mr. Patrick Hughes, of Bullan, Shrule, County Mayo (estate, H. McDougall, R.O., No. C.D.B. 4/2/14385, County Mayo); that this undertaking has never been honoured, and that Mr. Hughes is still waiting for this road to be constructed; and, if so, whether he will take immediate steps to have this work commenced.

A proposal to construct the short passage in question was made by the Land Commission some years ago to benefit five tenants of whom Mr. Patrick Hughes of Bullan, Shrule, was one. Having failed to reach agreement with one of the tenants over whose lands the proposed, passage is to run the Land Commission some time ago decided to institute compulsory proceedings to confer and define the proposed new right of way.

Is the matter of constructing the road still under active consideration by the Land Commission?

Perhaps the Deputy did not hear the reply, in the course of which I said:—

"Having failed to reach agreement with one of the tenants over whose lands the proposed passage is to run, the Land Commission some time ago decided to institute compulsory proceedings to confer and define the proposed new right of way."

I take it, therefore, that the proceedings are still pending.

They are nearing completion.
