Vol. 115 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Drainage and Reclamation Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will now state when advertisements will be published inviting applications for grants under the proposed land drainage and reclamation scheme.

As already announced several times in this House, it is the intention to make a start with the land reclamation project in eight counties, namely, Carlow, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Louth, Monaghan, Sligo, Wexford and Wicklow, by the 1st July next, and to extend it, as staff becomes available, to the whole country. Advertisements will be published when the Department is in a position to receive applications.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state under what sub-head of his Department's Vote the money necessary for the proposed land drainage and reclamation project will be provided; and whether the money will be raised by way of taxation or loan.

Provision for the land reclamation project will be made by Supplementary Estimate to the Vote for Agriculture and the relevant subhead will be indicated therein. The second part of the question will be dealt with by the Minister for Finance in his Budget Statement.
