Vol. 115 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Construction of Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state when 12 cottages for which plans have been approved, will be constructed in the Clonbullogue area, Offaly; and if he will give reasons for the delay in view of the fact that there are suitable sites in the locality.

Mr. Murphy

As I explained in reply to Deputy T.F. O'Higgins' question on the 3rd ultimo, the delay in proceeding with the housing scheme at Clonbullogue is due to the fact that an appeal is pending to the High Court by one of the owners of sites included in the Offaly County Health District Labourers Order, 1947 (Part III). The question of entry, otherwise than by agreement, on any of the sites included in the Order cannot be determined until the appeal is decided.

The local authority has approached the owners of some of the sites, including the sites in Clonbullogue, with a view to getting agreement to enter on the lands and proceed with the erection of cottages. I understand, however, that the owner of the Clonbullogue sites has refused consent.
