Vol. 115 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Position of County Council Gangers.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that county council gangers who were engaged for periods on minor relief, bog development and rural improvement schemes during the three years prior to the coming into operation of the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1948, have been informed that they have not qualified in accordance with Section 38 for inclusion in the register of established servants; and, if so, whether he will have the matter examined with a view to introducing proposals for amending legislation, if necessary, in order to enable those concerned to qualify for inclusion in the register of established servants.

Mr. Murphy

I am not aware that the position is as stated by the Deputy. I do, however, propose at the end of this year to review the operation of the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1948, and to consider the formulation of any amendments of the Act which may be found to be necessary. I shall have the point raised by the Deputy recorded for consideration.
