Vol. 115 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Drift Net Fishermen.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has received representations, verbal or written, on behalf of the drift net fishermen in the River Shannon in the vicinity of Jamestown, County Leitrim, and in the reaches of the Shannon in the neighbourhood of Killaloe; if he has examined the case made on their behalf and what action, if any, he proposes to take on the matter.

Following representations made on behalf of fishermen who fished the waters of the Shannon north of Athlone, public inquiries were carried out by officers of the Department earlier this month at several local centres. It has not yet been possible to come to a decision in regard to the matters dealt with at these inquiries.

No representations on behalf of fishermen in the Killaloe area appear to have been made to the Department.
