Vol. 115 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City Milk Supply.

asked the Minister for-Agriculture whether he has requested the suppliers of milk to Cork City to provide a twice-daily delivery during the coming summer months as promised by him to a deputation representing the Cork Corporation which met him last August; and, if he did so, if he will state what is the nature of the reply received by him.

The answer to the first part of the question is "No." When this matter was discussed in August last with a number of Deputies from Cork City, it was represented that shortage of petrol was the principal reason why retailers were unable to deliver twice daily. The Deputies present on that occasion were informed that if they would endeavour to persuade the retailers to resume twice-daily deliveries an approach would be made to the Minister for Industry and Commerce with a view to having additional supplies of petrol made available during the months of June, July and August. I have no information as to the result of any representations made to the retailers by the Deputies concerned.

Is the Minister aware that the trade in Cork have-agreed to have a twice-daily delivery in the months asked for by the deputation that met the Minister on that particular occasion?

I am very pleased to hear it.
