Vol. 115 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Afforestation Schemes.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is now in a position to state when the afforestation scheme in the Glenbeigh and Caragh Lake districts is likely to start and if the key area of about 400 acres at Lickeen has yet been acquired.

As I indicated to the Deputy in reply to earlier questions the prospects of starting an afforestation scheme in this area are dependent upon the outcome of proceedings for the compulsory acquisition of a large block of land in the Lickeen area. These proceedings have been commenced already but a further period must elapse before actual planting operations can take place. I can assure the Deputy however that matters will be pushed as rapidly as possible and that no avoidable delay will occur.
