Vol. 115 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Housing Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) the number of building sites, and the area of each, acquired by the Dublin Corporation for building purposes during the year 1948; (b) the number of dwellings to be built on each of these sites, and (c) the date on which it is calculated all the dwellings on these sites will be completed and ready for occupation.

(a) Three building sites were acquired by the Dublin Corporation during the year 1948 for the purposes of the Housing of the Working Classes Acts. The areas were 47½ acres, 12¾ acres and 2¾ acres.

In addition, steps were taken to acquire six further sites with a combined area of 804 acres, but the acquisition of these latter sites had not been completed by the end of the year; (b) the numbers of dwellings to be erected on the three sites actually acquired during the year 1948 will be 450, 68 and 30 dwellings; (c) the corporation expect that all the dwellings to be erected on these three sites will be completed and ready for occupation not later than the end of 1950.

I may add that the total area of housing sites at present being built on by the corporation is 212 acres, approximately.

Further sites totalling 485 acres are already in the corporation's possession.
