Vol. 115 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Article 3 of the Constitution.

asked the Taoiseach if it is the intention of the Government to take such steps as are necessary under Article 3 of the Constitution to declare that enactments of the Oireachtas heretofore having application in accordance with the said Article shall henceforth apply to the whole of the national territory.

In present circumstances it is not considered practicable or wise to take the steps suggested by the Deputy.

Does the Taoiseach appreciate the necessity of showing to the world that the elected representatives of the people are not lagging behind the people in this matter of urgency?

Fully, but I am satisfied that the method suggested by the Deputy in his question would not demonstrate that fact.
