Vol. 115 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Sub-Postmistress.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the reasons for the appointment as sub-postmistress at Adrigole of a person without previous post office experience, in preference to the person who was acting in that office and who had considerable experience of the work.

Before making this appointment I gave very careful consideration to the claims and qualifications of the two candidates, and I am satisfied the lady appointed was the more suitable of the two. Previous experience is not an essential qualification for a position of this kind.

Did the Minister receive a petition signed by 134 residents of Adrigole of all shades of political opinion protesting against this appointment?
