Vol. 115 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment Period Orders.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will now state in detail the regulations governing Employment Period Orders with a view to informing the public as to the classes of persons in rural districts permitted to draw unemployment assistance.

The Unemployment Assistance (Employment Period) Order, 1949, copies of which were duly presented to each House of the Oireachtas, has the effect of excluding from unemployment assistance from the 16th March, 1949, to the 25th October, 1949, persons resident outside towns having local government who are occupiers of land the poor law valuation of which exceeds £4. The Order does not apply to residents in such towns, and in rural areas the only persons it renders ineligible for unemployment assistance are occupiers of land the poor law valuation of which exceeds £4.
