Vol. 115 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Water Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if plans have been submitted to his Department for the carrying out of a sewerage and water scheme for each of the towns of Tarbert and Lixnaw, County Kerry; and, if so, when each scheme is likely to be carried out.

Preliminary plans for the provision of an improved water supply at Tarbert were approved by the Department on 20th May, 1946. The next step would be the preparation of detailed documents, but these have not since been received. The local authority at the same time furnished outline plans for a sewerage scheme at Tarbert. They were informed that the scheme should be deferred until the improved water supply had been provided.

Plans for the provision of a water supply at Lixnaw have been submitted to the Department. The question of the adequacy of the source is at present under consideration and the further observations of the consulting engineer in this regard were requested by the Department in February last. Preliminary plans for the provision of a sewerage scheme at Lixnaw were approved by the Department in December, 1947. The carrying out of the sewerage scheme must, however, be deferred until an adequate water supply is available.

The times when these schemes will be carried out are dependent on the completion of the preliminaries which I have mentioned. As I have indicated, this is a matter in each case for the local authority.
