Vol. 115 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Collection of Taxes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount received by him for the financial year 1948-49 under the headings of income-tax, surtax and corporation profits tax and what was the cost of collection under each head.

In the financial year 1948-49 the following amounts were received:—

£

Income-tax

14,664,000

Surtax

1,438,000

Corporation profits tax

3,450,000

It is not possible to state the cost of collecting each amount, as income-tax, surtax and corporation profits tax form only a portion of the duties entrusted to the care and management of the Revenue Commissioners and the cost of the Revenue Commissioners' Office is not apportioned amongst the various items of revenue collected.
