Vol. 115 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pensioned Teachers' Increases.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is yet in a position (i) to give the details of the increases for pensioned teachers; (ii) the date from which the increases will be payable; and (iii) the date on which the increased sums will first be paid.

A general indication of the proposed increases was given by the Minister for Education in the course of the debate on the Education Estimates on the 4th instant. As stated by the Minister on that occasion, and subsequently by me in reply to a Parliamentary question on the 17th May, it is intended that these increases will be payable as from the 1st April, 1949. Since legislation will be required for these payments, I am not at present in a position to say when the increased sums will first be paid.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when it is proposed to pay retired primary school teachers the increases in their pensions outlined in the Minister for Education's recent statement on the Education Estimates.

As legislation will be required for the payment of these increases, I am not at present in a position to indicate when the payments will be issued.
