Vol. 115 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Division and Acquisition.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the Oakport Demesne, Cootehall, Boyle, has been in the hands of the Land Commission for a considerable number of years; that it is being annually let for grazing; and, if so, whether he will recommend to the Land Commission that it take immediate steps to divide this land in view of the congestion which exists in the locality.

The scheme for the division of these lands is almost complete.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that Mrs. Margaret Kelly, Churchfield, Knock, County Mayo, has advertised for sale approximately 60 acres of land; and, if so, whether the Land Commission will proceed to have this farm acquired for the relief of local congestion.

In reply to a previous question on 28th April last, I pointed out that the mere fact that lands are offered for sale is not sufficient reason for the Land Commission to institute proceedings for acquisition. I have asked the Land Commission to inquire as to congestion in the area and to take any steps that may be possible to relieve any such congestion.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that a farm of land formerly the property of Captain Browne, Dowagh Cross, Claremorris, County Mayo, is now derelict; and if the Land Commission will take steps to have this land acquired as soon as possible.

I have asked the Land Commission to come to an early decision in this case.
