Vol. 116 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Organisations with Communist Tendencies.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of his statement that there are a few organisations in this country which appear to have Communistic tendencies, he will take steps to warn the public, and particularly young people, against joining these organisations.

As the activities of these organisations do not appear to contravene the law, and as the information which I have in regard to them is of a confidential nature I consider that it would not be proper for me to name the organisations.

Is the Minister aware that there is no such thing as a law-abiding Communist or Communistic organisation and, therefore, if those organisations to which I have referred are Communistic in tendency they must be acting contrary to law? Does the Minister not think it would be desirable to warn young people particularly against their being drawn into them?

I have said that there are a few organisations which appear to be Communistic, but I cannot start off to say they are Communistic because they appear to be at the moment. Until I have more definite information, I am not in a position to move.

Question No. 25.

Has the Minister investigated the activities of the Dublin Democratic Youth Movement?

When a question is called, Deputies should not flout the Chair by shouting.
