Vol. 116 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of New Bridges in Dublin.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present position regarding the proposal to erect new bridges in Dublin across the River Liffey.

A number of properties has been acquired by the Dublin Corporation with a view to widening and improving the approaches to the proposed new bridge to the east of Butt Bridge. Technical details of the project are being discussed by the technical advisers of the corporation and the Dublin Port and Docks Board and arrangements have been made to take a special traffic census in the docks area next month in connection with the planning of the bridge. I understand, however, that the corporation have been advised that the actual construction of the bridge at present is out of the question because of difficulties in obtaining certain materials and ancillary gear.

The corporation have also acquired a number of properties in connection with a proposed new bridge at Liffey Street but considerable further acquisition of properties and the widening and improvement of the approaches will be necessary before a bridge can be provided.
