Vol. 116 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Married Soldiers' Allowance.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state how the figure of 2/7 per day was arrived at as allowance in lieu of rations for married soldiers living out of barracks and for all ranks while on leave.

The 2/7 a day represents the average cost at contract rates of the standard ration for a soldier plus 3d. to allow for the difference between the cost at contract rates and the retail price of food when purchased by the soldier himself. The figure of 2/7 is adjusted as the cost of the standard ration increases or decreases.
