Vol. 116 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Facilities (County Clare).

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he can state when it is proposed to provide a public telephone at Carron, County Clare, which is at present over six miles from the nearest call office.

There is no post office at Carron but arrangements are being made to open one there as early as circumstances permit. A public telephone will be installed in the proposed post office in due course under the general scheme for providing a telephone call office in every post office.

As, however, I have already stated on many occasions, it has been necessary owing to pressure of more urgent construction works to suspend work on the call office scheme for the present. I propose to review the position in September next when it may be practicable to resume work on the scheme. In the meantime it is not possible to say as regards any particular post office when a telephone call office will be provided.
