Vol. 117 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rents of Furnished Houses and Tenements.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state definitely whether or not he intends to introduce proposals for legislation to control the rents of furnished houses and tenements.

I have been giving anxious consideration for some time to the question of extending rent control to furnished dwellings. The Rent Restrictions Act, 1946, is due to expire next year and this will necessitate a review of the position in regard to rent control generally, including the position of furnished dwellings, and also of houses built subsequent to 1941 which are excluded from the scope of the 1946 Act. Pending this general review of the whole question, it is not proposed to extend the scope of rent control in any direction.
