Vol. 117 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Water Supplies.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the grave need for a proper water supply for the village and district of Ballyhooley, Fermoy, County Cork, and whether any proposals have yet been received by his Department from the local authority on the matter and whether, if such proposals have not been received, he will take steps to speed up the scheme, especially in view of the fact that nine new non-municipal houses with bathrooms and flush lavatories are being erected where drinking water is not at present available.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether proposals have been received by his Department from the local authority for the extension of Grange and Johnstown water supply from Joyces Cross Acres, Glanworth, to Curraghbrien Cross, Glanworth; and, if so, when the necessary sanction will be given.

I propose with your permission, Sir, to reply to Questions Nos. 27 and 28 together.

The proposals of the Cork County Council for a water supply to Castletownroche include an extension to Curraghbrien Cross. The scheme has been approved in principle and the submission of detailed plans is awaited. In these circumstances the question of an extension of the Glanworth supply to this area does not arise.

A proposal to extend the supply from Curraghbrien Cross to Ballyhooley, which is two miles distant, was received on the 1st instant and has also been approved in principle. A joint scheme for CastletownrocheBallyhooley has the advantages that only one pumping station and caretaker will be required for the two villages and that the intervening districts will be fully served.
