Vol. 117 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Cahirciveen Harbour.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he is aware that the carrying out of repairs to Cooninna Harbour, Cahirciveen, is being gravely impeded due to the fact that men registered in the local exchange are being assigned to turf production under Bord na Móna; and if so, in view of the urgency of this work, whether he will ensure that it is given priority in the assignment of men at the local exchange.

I am not aware that the carrying out of repairs to Cooninna Harbour is being impeded as suggested in this question. I should like to explain that the functions of my Department in connection with the filling of vacancies are confined to the submission of suitable persons registered at its local offices for vacancies notified to those offices. Vacancies for six men for work at Cooninna Harbour were notified to the local office at Cahirciveen in the first week of this month. These vacancies were filled immediately from the register of that office, and I am informed that no further workers are required at present.
