Vol. 118 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Amendment of Unemployment Insurance and Unemployment Assistance Acts.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider introducing proposals for legislation to amend the Unemployment Insurance Acts and the Unemployment Assistance Acts with a view to (a) abolishing the waiting period of six days; (b) increasing the present rates of benefit; and (c) enabling unemployed persons to receive benefit for each day they sign at the labour exchange.

In so far as unemployment benefit is concerned I would refer the Deputy to the proposals for the payment of unemployment benefit and the conditions for qualification which are contained in the White Paper on social security. The relevant provisions of the Unemployment Assistance Acts will be duly examined when amending legislation in respect of those Acts is next being considered.
