Vol. 118 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Revenue from Postage Increase.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the amount of revenue received by the Exchequer as a result of the increase in the cost of postage in the 12 months' period, or in such shorter period for which figures are available, since the imposition of the increase.

I am unable to state exactly the amount of additional revenue derived during the 12 months ended 30th June, 1949, from the increased postage rates which became effective on the 1st July, 1948. For this 12 months, however, postage stamp sales and receipts from postage collected in cash were higher by £508,000 than the corresponding 12 months ended the 30th June, 1948. Portion of the increase was due to increased traffic.
