Vol. 118 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lack of Grain Storage (Cork).

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that Cork mills closed for one or two days each week during the grain campaign, due to shortage of storage space; that as a result, licensed grain merchants having grain for delivery to the mills were put to great inconvenience; and, if so, whether he will ensure that adequate storage space will be available in future.

I am aware that certain millers found it necessary to regulate their intake of wheat at the peak of the harvest to enable them to cope with the situation which arose as a result of the blessed abundance of the native wheat crop. The question of the provision of adequate storage facilities for grain is at present under consideration.

The Deputy may be interested to know that we have already taken delivery of over 2,000,000 barrels of wheat.
