Vol. 118 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of County Kerry Turbary Road.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that repair of the road leading to turbary plots on the lands of Mr. Timothy Murphy, Bahaghs, Cahirciveen, has not yet been completed, and that as a result, 14 tenants of these plots find it impossible to remove turf from the bogs; and, if so, whether he will take steps to allocate the necessary grant for the completion of the work at the earliest possible date.

A grant of £100 was made for the bog road in question in 1947/48, and having regard to the prior claims of other more necessary cases, I am not prepared to make a further grant—in the present financial year at all events.

I should point out that when my Office last made inquiries a landholder whose lands are traversed by part of the roads declined to give his consent to the remaking of that part; and that in the event of a grant being made available in the future it could not be expended unless the objection had first been withdrawn.
