Vol. 118 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reduction of Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will indicate the number of people who suffered a reduction in their Army service pensions, military service pensions and I.R.A. and Cumann-na-mBan special allowances as a result of increases in their old age pensions under the Social Welfare Acts, 1948.

Persons in receipt of Army service pensions or military service pensions suffered no reduction in these pensions as a result of increases in their old age pensions under the Social Welfare Act, 1948.

No hardship has been suffered in the case of special allowances because the reduction, if any, corresponds with an increase in the old age pension. As regards special dependents' allowances, 21 persons had their allowances terminated as a result of an increase in old age pensions, but these allowances are being restored.
