Vol. 118 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of Buckets.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is correct that galvanised-iron buckets without handles have recently been admitted free of customs duty as unassembled; and, if so, whether he proposes to take any action in the matter.

Galvanised-iron buckets without handles were always admitted free of customs duty as unassembled. The Government has already taken suitable action in the matter.

Will the Minister say if a definite decision has been made, in order to close a loophole? This is important in view of the fact that, during the time that the matter was under consideration, one firm alone imported as many as 36,000 buckets.

There is no avoidable delay, and suitable action has been taken to close what the Deputy describes as a loophole.
