Vol. 118 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - American Authorities and Rineanna Airport

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if demands have been made by American authorities for our consent to the by-passing of Rineanna by their aeroplanes; if he will state the nature of the negotiations entered into with the American authorities in the matter and the consequent agreements (if any) concluded.

Following a request by the U.S. Government for the amendment of the air agreement made between the two countries in 1945, discussions took place in Dublin last month. The amendments sought were that U.S. aircraft which fly over Irish territory should no longer be required to call at Shannon Airport and that Dublin Airport should be designated for use by U.S. transatlantic aircraft in addition to Shannon Airport.

No agreements have been concluded as a result of these discussions. The matter is being considered by the Government.
