Vol. 118 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Sewerage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the necessity for sewerage facilities for the ex-servicemen's housing scheme at Raheny and the corporation cottages at Collins Avenue, Whitehall; and, if so, whether he can state when it will be possible to connect these houses to the sewerage system.

In the early part of this year my Department took up with Dublin Corporation the question of connecting certain cottages in Raheny, the property of the Sailors' and Soldiers' Land Trust, with water and sewerage services. It appeared that, as these cottages are private property, the cost of providing sanitary services must be borne either by the owners or the tenants, and the matter was not proceeded with.

As regards the houses at Collins Avenue, these, I understand, are cottages erected by the county council under the Labourers Acts and transferred to the corporation on the extension of the city boundary. The question of providing sanitary services for these and other such cottages is being attended to by the corporation. There are several groups of such cottages, and a contract has been entered into for carrying out the work. It is intended that the groups should be dealt with in rotation. It is not possible to say when exactly sanitary facilities will be provided at the Collins Avenue houses.
