Vol. 118 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of County Tipperary Road.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the public road at Inchirourke (near Urlingford), in Tipperary S.R., has been in an extremely bad condition for some years due to the heavy traffic it carries from the Bord na Móna bog at Inchirourke; that repeated requests were made to the county council to put the road in proper repair without result; that although, on 3rd November, 1948, the secretary of the council stated that they intended to provide for the rolling and spraying of the road in 1949, the only work done was totally inadequate; that the chief assistant county engineer, on the 11th October, 1949, stated that he had had the road inspected and agreed that the surface was very bad, that they could not do more than minor pot hole filling this year, but that he had noted it for inclusion in next year's estimate; and whether in the circumstances he will take immediate steps to compel the council to have the road properly repaired without further delay.

I have inquired into this matter and understand that the council are doing such work as they made provision for this year on this road. As the Deputy mentions in his question, the road is being noted for special attention in connection with the road works estimates for the coming year. I shall convey the terms of the Deputy's question to the council.
