Vol. 118 No. 9

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1, 9, 10, 11, 2, 12; Private Deputies' Business, No. 22 on the Order Paper, to be taken at 9 o'clock.

Some Deputies of our Party have asked me to inquire if the Criminal Justice Bill is not reached this evening will the Minister be prepared to accept amendments to the Bill to-morrow.

It does not rest with the Minister.

It is a matter for the Chair.

Would the Taoiseach inform the House when it is proposed to take the Committee Stage of the Transport Bill?

I understood the Deputy was anxious to have that postponed in order that he should see the official amendments.

I have not seen them yet.

That is why the Committee Stage has not been taken—so that the Deputy could see them.

It is not merely a matter of curiosity. Perhaps the Minister could tell us whether he still hopes to have that Bill enacted by 1st January or does he contemplate a postponement of the operative date?

I think it is quite clear that we will have to postpone the appointed date. It will not be possible to get the Bill through before that. I am hoping to be able to take the Committee Stage next week.
