Vol. 118 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Improvement of Schools.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware of the derelict condition of the national schools at Park, Killeagh, and Kyle, Youghal, County Cork; and, if so, whether he will take steps to provide proper school buildings in these districts.

I am aware of the defective condition of the Park National School, County Cork. Arrangements are being made to have it replaced by a new school, and I hope that my Department will be in a position, at an early date, to sanction a grant towards the cost of the new building.

Killeagh National School is a comparatively new building, erected in 1941. I am not aware that the school is in a derelict condition, but I am having investigations made as to the present state of the premises.

I am aware that in view of the general condition of Kyle National School the erection of a new school would be desirable, but the need for a new building in this case would not appear to be urgent, in comparison with many more serious cases throughout the country which are demanding and receiving attention. I am, however, having the question of a new school further investigated.

asked the Minister for Education if he intends to make a grant for the installation of a water supply and sewerage system for Castlemartyr national schools.

I have no information on this matter. I am having investigations made with a view to ascertaining what is necessary and feasible.
