Vol. 118 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Minor Relief Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that a large number of men are at present unemployed in County Dublin; and, if so, whether he will make a special grant for a minor relief scheme in order to provide employment for these men.

Under the normal employment schemes programme for the current winter, grants have been authorised for the following areas:— Clondalkin, Stillorgan, Shankill and Swords. Apart from these cases, I am not aware of any exceptional unemployment in County Dublin at present time?

I was just going to ask the Minister, who was going to bring the fellows home from England, to give me some of the posters, because I would want them in County Dublin at the moment. Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that there were never more men idle in North County Dublin than there are at the present time?

A Deputy

Why do you not get Deputy Lemass' bugle?

Why not ring a bell?

Let Deputy Collins mind his job in the florist's shop. I want to protest on behalf of the unemployed in North County Dublin——

Question No. 29.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that there are over 70 men idle in Swords at the present time and that there are over 50 idle in Balbriggan, Clondalkin, Malahide, Donabate and various other areas? I just want to put it to the Parliamentary Secretary that this type of question is of very little use to the people who are hungry——

I want to put it to the Parliamentary Secretary that the type of answer he has given me——

Has the Deputy a supplementary question to ask?

What type of scheme of works is the Parliamentary Secretary going to start in these areas, to give these people some employment? Of course, you all promised them full employment——

Question No. 29.

What about the posters?

A Chinn Chomhairle——

Question No. 29.
