Vol. 118 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Road Workers.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether any proposals have been received in his Department from Waterford County Council in connection with the circular issued by his Department in January last regarding the payment of council road workers for broken time, and whether the provisions of the circular have been given effect to in any other counties.

The recommendations made in this matter to local authorities were, I understand, approved by the Waterford County Council some time ago. My specific approval to implement a scheme for payment for broken time is not required and, therefore, the question of submitting proposals in the matter to the Department does not arise.

In regard to the second part of the question, most of the county councils have adopted schemes for payment for broken time.
