Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Employees.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) the number of men employed by each local authority under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949; (b) the total number employed under this Act, and (c) the amount applied for under the Act by each county council and the amount granted in each case up to the 20th November, 1949.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to have the information required by the Deputy published in the Official Report.

The figures given above in regard to the amount of grant applied for are in some cases the subject of correspondence with the local authorities concerned with a view to determining the actual amount of work which will be completed by 31st March, 1950. The figures given exceed in many cases the programmes which councils say they can complete by that date.
