Vol. 119 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flour Mills.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that workers in small flour and wheatenmeal mills are gravely perturbed as a result of information which they have recently received to the effect that their mills will be closed; and, if so, whether he will make a statement on the matter.

While I am aware that some persons have been circulating rumours regarding loss of employment in inland flour and grain mills, I am not aware of any anxiety in this regard on the part of the workers who readily recognise the wagging tongue of falsehood in the purveyors of so-called rumours, which could be checked for veracity by a postcard addressed to the Department of Agriculture. The Deputy will no doubt redouble his efforts to detect and confute the illdisposed and malicious gossips to whom his public spirited question refers.

Good man, Jimmie.

On with the motley.

Will the Minister give an assurance to the House and the country that the person responsible for that rumour is a Minister of State? He would have more authority over him than I have.

I will give no assurance, nor will I name one of the individuals who, I have no doubt, did his part in disseminating the falsehoods.

Good man, Jimmie.

Truthful James.
