Vol. 119 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary Employment.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether, in view of the continuing unemployment obtaining in Tipperary S.R., he will now make additional grants available to enable additional road workers to be employed in that area.

Schemes to be undertaken under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, were intended to supplement the employment afforded under the current road works scheme.

Grants totalling £73,083 have been allocated to the Tipperary S.R. County Council for works to be carried out by the end of the present financial year. The amount expended by the council up to the end of last month was only about £37,000. The council have, therefore, ample funds available and the allocation of further grants at present does not appear to be necessary.
