Vol. 119 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of Petrol Pumps.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when it is proposed to sanction the erection of petrol pumps to serve the needs of the villages of Goleen and Leap.

No application has been made to my Department from either Goleen or Leap for a motor spirit retailer's licence, though representations have been made about the need for facilities in Goleen. I am prepared, on application, to issue licences for the retail sale of petrol in Goleen and Leap.

My sanction is not required for the provision and erection of petrol pumps. Arrangements in this regard must be made by the parties concerned with the companies engaged in the wholesale distribution of petrol.

When the Department issues a licence to sell petrol, the retailer sometimes experiences difficulty in getting it from any of the companies. Could the Parliamentary Secretary indicate whether there will be any alleviation of the restrictions that exist in this connection? Is the matter likely to be reviewed?

That is a separate question. We have not even got an application from Goleen or Leap yet.
