Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Statistics Relating to Roads.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the amounts allocated from the Road Fund for all purposes to each county for the years 1948-49 and 1949-50.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of the years 1939 and 1950, taking any month after June in each year, the number of and percentage increases in 1950 over 1939, in (a) all vehicles licensed; (b) public service vehicles and commercial goods vehicles licensed; (c) commercial goods vehicles of five tons unladen weight and over licensed; and if he will further state the total number of vehicles per mile of (a) main roads, and (b) all roads, for 1939 and 1950, giving figures, if available, for the Six-County area in respect of any comparable categories.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state approximately (a) the average cost of surface dressing a mile of 20 feet wide road in 1939 and 1950, discounting unfavourable conditions such as weak foundations; (b) the provision of grants from the Road Fund for main road improvement, restoration and maintenance per mile of all main roads for the years 1938-39, 1946-47, 1947-48, 1948-49, and 1949-50; (c) the provision in rate contributions for main road works per mile of all main roads for the years 1938-39, 1946-47, 1947-48, 1948-49, and 1949-50.

1. Cost of surface dressing—The average cost of surface dressing a mile of road 20 feet wide is estimated at approximately £250 in 1939 and £550 in 1950.

2. Statement showing, for county councils, per mile of main road, the grants allocated out of the Road Fund for main road improvement, restoration and maintenance and provision from local rates.
