Vol. 120 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Houses.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the number of houses at present let for rent by the Dublin Corporation; the amount received annually in rents by the corporation; the total annual outgoings of the corporation in interest and redemption fund for housing purposes; and the annual grant and/or subsidies paid by the Government in respect of the latter amount.

The number of houses let by the Dublin Corporation at 31st March, 1950, was 22,368. The corporation are not in a position at present to give the figures in regard to rents, exclusive of rates, in respect of the year 1949/50. The total outgoings for interest and redemption fund in respect of these houses were £700,331. The amount of grants and subsidy paid by the Government during the year was £228,087. The figures in regard to total outgoings do not include any payments in respect of repairs, insurance, cost of collection, etc. The loss on corporation housing in respect of the year 1948-49 was £300,578. Final figures for 1949-50 are not yet available.

Is there anything to prevent a local city manager from giving these figures, if asked for them by local representatives?

The figures are not yet available. The information I have given is based on the last figures they have ready.

Is there anything to prevent city managers from supplying that information, if asked for it by local representatives?

They would have to wait until the information was compiled.
