Vol. 120 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Cleaning of Cork River.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the reasons for the delay in sanctioning proposals for cleaning and lowering the bed of the Midleton Dunjourney River, and, further, whether he is aware that a number of farmers who have made applications under the land rehabilitation scheme have been informed that their schemes cannot be carried out until the river bed is cleaned and lowered, and if he will accordingly give immediate sanction in view of the urgency of the matter.

The scheme submitted by the Cork County Council in 1949-50 for the cleaning of the Dunjourney River under the Local Authorities (Works) Act was an elaborate one estimated to cost £9,000 and it could not be considered for approval until a survey had been carried out and the results thereof made available. I understand that this survey is now completed and when the particulars have been submitted and examined a decision on the scheme will be given without delay.
