Vol. 120 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Atlantic Pact.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether he has obtained the consent of the United States Government to the publication of the note to the United States Government containing the Irish Government's views relating to Ireland's participation in the Atlantic Pact and whether he is now in a position to publish this note.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The official texts relating to our attitude towards the North Atlantic Treaty are contained in a White Paper which I have presented to both Houses of the Oireachtas to-day. Copies have been made available in the Library for the information of Deputies.

Can the Minister tell the House whether the present position is as set out in the note?

The two aidesmémoire sent by the Irish Government on the 8th February, 1949, and on the 25th May, 1949, represent the views of the Irish Government.
