Vol. 120 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition and Division.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the number of inspections carried out by the Land Commission for the past two years in the parishes of Skreen, Templeboy, Dromore West, Easkey, Rathlee and Castleconnor; and (b) how many of these farms have been acquired for division in these areas.

The Land Commission records do not take cognisance of parish boundaries. It is, therefore, not possible to supply the information required.

Is the Minister aware that that area is very congested and can he give any guarantee that the situation will be relieved in the immediate future?

I cannot give any such guarantee. However, we are aware that the area is not one of the bright spots, as far as congestion is concerned. The Land Commission inspectors have a notice for early inspection but I cannot guarantee how soon that will be.

Is the Minister further aware that that is the only area in County Sligo where land has not been divided since the present Government came into office?
