Vol. 120 No. 11

Written Answers. - Land for Afforestation.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the average maximum and minimum price per acre paid during the last three years for lands intended for afforestation, and, further, whether the forestry branch of his Department can estimate the minimum acreage of land suitable for forestry purposes, and situated within three or four miles of existing forestry centres, which can be worked economically from the nearest centre.

Prices ranged from about 10/- to £8 an acre during the period in question. The answer to the latter part of the question is "No". The suitability of any land for forestry purposes depends on many factors other than area.
