Vol. 121 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Minor Employment Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of minor employment schemes sanctioned in respect of County Waterford and the total amount expended thereon in each of the years 1944 to 1949.

The information asked for by the Deputy is as follows: 1944/45—one scheme, expenditure £43; 1945/46—one scheme, expenditure £76; 1946/47 and 1947/48—no expenditure; 1948/49—one scheme, expenditure £266; 1949/50—no expenditure.

I should add that minor employment schemes are only carried out in rural district electoral divisions in which there are a sufficient number of suitable unemployment assistance recipients to form a gang of economic size, and that there are very few electoral divisions in County Waterford in which this condition has been fulfilled during the years in question.
