Vol. 121 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Leitrim Minerals Deposits.

Mr. Maguire

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will arrange for the inspection of the Arigna-Drumshambo area by the American mining expert who is at present in this country with a view to the further possible development of the iron, coal, silica and other clay deposits in this and adjoining districts.

The expert to whom the Deputy refers has been employed for a limited period and for the specific purpose of advising me on the scope for exploitation of gypsum and anhydrite deposits in the Counties of Monaghan, Cavan and Meath. It is possible that in the course of his investigations it may be necessary for him to visit other areas in order to consider the availability of other minerals, a demand for which might be created by the development of the gypsum and anhydrite deposits. I can give no assurance, however, that the expert will visit the area to which the Deputy refers.
