Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - House Building in Dun Laoghaire and Rathdown Areas.

Mr. Brady

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in reference to (1) the Dun Laoghaire Borough Corporation area; (2) the Rathdown area of the Dublin County Council (a) the total number of houses built or reconstructed during each year from 1934 to 1949, and (b) the average number of manual workers employed during each of these years.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate the reply in the Official Report. It is assumed that the particulars are required in respect of local authority housing only.

The particulars are not available for the calendar years and are accordingly given in respect of each financial year included or partially included in the period.

(2) (a) The numbers of houses built or reconstructed by the Dublin County Council in the Rathdown area in the financial years in question were:—

No houses were completed during the subsequent years until 1949-1950 when 29 houses were built.

(2) (b) Records are not now available to show the numbers of men employed on housing work in the Rathdown area during the pre-emergency period. The average number of men employed since the resumption of housing work was 26 in the latter part of 1948-49 and 99 during 1949-50.
